I have a grandson, four and a half years old, that has been in lots of speech therapy for two years with several therapists and is saying some sentences but seems to have difficulty chaining words into phrases or sentences. Where can I go for help. He lives in New York City

I am trying to contact Kelly Dorfman. I am a Registered Dietitian but more importantly a mom with a son with autism. I am currently a Diabetes Educator but obviously since my son was diagnosed with autism, my passion has changed. I have my son on some supplements and the GFCF diet. I have been helping a few parents in my area as their are no other dietitians who will touch this subject matter. Autism has become my life---in a good way. I wish I could change it but I cant---so I feel as though it is my job to use my knowledge as a dietitan to do what so many other dietitans (and med professionals) wont do. To Londra and Jamie below. I think it's more of a Los Angeles plastic surgery thing then a general Califonria issue. I find that we have a lasik new york issue here. Hi, I thought I'd let you know about a gem of a book that you may or may not have heard about (I only discovered it recently although it came out in 2000). I think it could help a lot of parents in accepting a child who is not typical. It's called "A Place Within the Sphere" and it was written by Tanis Morran. It follows a young woman as she questions whether or not she should conform and be like others. Much of her inspiration comes from another young woman who happens to have autism and does not seem to suffer from "comparisonitis." I heard about it at a conference I attended and I was able to find it at amazon.com - I'm not sure where else one can find it. Excellent reading for older teens and adults! Best wishes, Trace Carson

hi my son cjis autistic,we had no idea until the babysitter said he couldnt hear,we just thought he was perfect.well tubes came and went an still he wasnt right.so we had him evaluated at childrens medical center.which are some great people there,no snide remarks or looks which if you have a child with special needs you know all about them.the biggest problem i have is the school system,they say theres no money in the budget for an aide for him and they devide their time up so someone is allways with him,but its so scary,wondering if oneday he`ll walk away.they`ve done a great job but still he a lot of one on one which he doesn`t get.but on a light note,don`t worry about the rough times there are so many good times with my cj i will allways feel bleased to have had him.we learn from each other. just love your child and it will work out,god bless.

We have a 7 year old son who's been recently diagnosed pdd-nos. What does this mean? I'm researching neuro-development as a possible good place to start. He's high functioning, with a few autistic traits, a few Asperger traits, and below average pragmatic language skills. His intelligence is in the normal range. His diet consists of lots of carbs, dairy and sugar. I'm curious if a dairy and gluten free diet would also benefit him. My son Dustin was a shaken baby at 4 months of age. He is now 17 with cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, totally blind, developmental delays. Mentally he is about the level of a 4 yr old. Due to recent surgery on his legs he is in rehab to learn to walk again. I am looking for therapy items to work with him at home in the future.

I'm the parent of a four year old boy diagnosed with sensory intergration dysfunction and in search of anyone in my area interested in starting up a parent support group on a weekly or biweekly basis.Basically I want to have some place to go to vent to people who understand what I'm going through and won't give the all too typical response of,"It's just a phase he'll grow out of it" and will actually be able to give me sound advice that I may be able to use when dealing with my son, and vice versa. It would also be a chance for my son to play with other kids who have the same energy as him and won't think he's weird for it. Please if you live in the Citrus county Florida area and need someone other then doctors and therapists(no offense to those who are)to talk to contact me and maybe we can help each other as well as our kids.

My child was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder in February, 2001. He will be 3 yrs old next month and has been involved with a speech therapist and occ. therapist for approx. 6 months now. It would be nice to be able to belong to some sort of support group as I really do feel alone and helpless at times. It is hard for my child to "fit in" to "normal" typical situations that a lot of children are in and it can be downright depressing at times. Thank you for your ear....

Please help me, my son was just daignosed with active austism. I am having no luck in finding a support group or someone to talk to. My husband is still in a denial stage, he talks to his friends about it and not me. I know there is alot I have to do to get my son the help he needs, but I am so lost right now on how to do it. He is 4yrs old and it took me 2yrs just to get the doctroc and others to finaly listen to me that something was wrong with my son, and now that he is daignosed I don't want to wait any longer to get him the help he needs.
